FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wilkinson County Board of Education Announces Public Hearings on Intent to Opt Out of House Bill 581 – The Floating Homestead Exemption Act

Irwinton, GA – The Wilkinson County Board of Education (WCBOE) intends to opt out of House Bill (HB) 581, also known as the Floating Homestead Exemption Act, for the Wilkinson County School District. In an effort to ensure transparency and provide an opportunity for public input, WCBOE invites all community members to participate in upcoming public hearings.

The hearings will be held at the Wilkinson County High School Auditorium, located at 11471 GA Hwy 57, Irwinton, GA, on the following dates and times:

  • February 10, 2025 – 9:30 AM
  • February 10, 2025 – 5:30 PM
  • February 17, 2025 – 6:00 PM

Please note that the first two meetings have been scheduled on the same date as the meeting regarding millage rates, minimizing the need for citizens to make multiple trips on different days. Community members who wish to provide input must sign in upon arrival and will have three (3) minutes to speak.

WCBOE encourages all residents to attend and share their perspectives on this matter. Public participation is welcomed and valued as we navigate decisions that impact our schools and community.

A final vote will take place during a Called Board Meeting on February 18, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Wilkinson County Board of Education Board Room, located at 197 W Main Street, Irwinton, GA 31042.
