Today, Wilkinson County Schools proudly joins in the statewide celebration of Georgia Reads Day! Governor Brian Kemp proclaimed Monday, September 22, 2025, as a day for all Georgians to recognize the power of reading to transform lives and strengthen communities.
As our students learn from home today, families are encouraged to tune in to the Virtual Reading Rally with Malcolm Mitchell, hosted by GPB, at GeorgiaReads.org. At the same time, Warrior Nation is taking part in our own district-wide reading challenge:
Post a photo of yourself or your child reading on Facebook and tag Wilkinson County Schools.
Each entry will go into a drawing for a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card.
This celebration also comes during September’s Free Library Card Sign-Up Month, reminding us that one of the most important tools for student success is access to books. Families are encouraged to visit their local library and make sure every child has a card of their own.
Literacy Month in Our Schools
All month long, Wilkinson County Schools is highlighting literacy through engaging activities across grade levels:
Sept. 8 – Literacy Month Kickoff: Families joined our district-wide challenge to post reading photos.
Sept. 12 – Readers Become Leaders: Guest readers shared stories with Pre-K–5 students, and middle school students enjoyed the “Masked Reader” game.
Sept. 19 – Literacy Halls: Hallways and classrooms came alive with book-themed decorations.
Sept. 26 – Book Tasting: Students will pair reading with fun, themed snacks in the media center.
Sept. 30 – Storybook Character Day & Literacy Parade: Students in Pre-K through 8th grade will celebrate their favorite book characters with costumes and a parade.
A Culture of Reading
From Georgia Reads Day to our month-long activities, Wilkinson County Schools is proud to build a culture where literacy is celebrated every day. Together, we are turning the page to a brighter future for every Warrior.
