“A Fresh Start.

Wilkinson County Middle School’s Agriculture course is off to an exciting start this semester with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that connect science to real-world agriculture.

Students kicked off the new term with an interactive lab activity titled “A Fresh Start.” During the lesson, they combined fresh ingredients—lemons and limes—with carbonation and fermentation to create their own version of the popular soft drink Sprite. The experiment allowed students to explore the reaction between yeast and carbon dioxide while learning how everyday products are connected to agriculture.

The lab also highlighted the important role of farm-based ingredients such as sugar and corn syrup, helping students better understand how agriculture impacts food production and consumer products they enjoy.

By blending science, creativity, and practical agricultural concepts, this activity set the tone for an energetic and productive second semester. Students were able to see firsthand how agriculture and STEM work together in meaningful and fun ways.

WCMS looks forward to many more innovative lessons as our Ag students continue to explore, experiment, and grow!
